June 17, 2012am      A Father’s Prayer       Psalm 20

by Ron George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church
For the director of music. A psalm of David.

Dad what would you want for your children?  What would you ask God for today?  Is this your prayer?
Psalm 20:1 May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. 3 May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. Selah 4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. 5 We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests. 6 Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.9 O Lord, save the king! Answera us when we call!
My Prayer for you.

  1. That God would answer when you are in distress.  (you will be in distress and you will need God.  Will you call on Him?  Will He answer you?  I ask Him to answer and help you.)
  2. That God’s Name will protect you.  (How can a name protect you?  When you wear His name and would you put yourself under  his care and protection.  So that whenever anyone or anything would approach you to harm you they would recognize that you are under His watchful eye of protection.)
  3. May He send you help from the sanctuary.  May He grant you support from Zion (Who or what is in the sanctuary?  He is and His army of angelic beings who honor and worship Him day and night.  He and they are always available to help those who  call on His great name.)  (Mt. Zion is the dwelling place of the most high God.  There He lives and sends out His word/commands which will always support those who He cares for.)
  4. May He remember all your offerings and accept your burnt sacrifices.  (You will make sacrifice and offering to the Lord who is worthy of all we are.  We ask that He will accept your worship and recognize you as His, but remember He accepts those who sincerely call on His great name.  And all those who worship Him in Spirit and in truth. So  offer to Him your all and don’t hold back from the only , true living God. )
  5. May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.  (What are your desires?  Are they of God or of self?  What plans do you have?  Would you want God to see them through.
  6. We will shout for joy when you are victorious and lift  up our banners in the name of God.  (I assume you will go with God.  Where else can you go?  I also know that in the name of God you will prosper and be victorious. We will shout with you.  So we will give God the glory and recognition of all He has done.)
  7. May the Lord grant your requests and May He answer you with all his saving power.    I pray that you will be saved.  I pray that you put your trust in the Lord your God.
  8. May you trust in the Lord and not the things of the earth that some think will save them.
  9. May you not be brought to your knees and fall, but may you stand firm in the Lord.
  10. Lord save the king / president and save us is our prayer.
