June 10, 2012   United We Stand  and Divided we ….    Mark 3:20-34

by Ron George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist church

Are Christians united today?  Why are we  or why aren’t we?  Should we be?

Mark 3: 20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebuba! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”
23 So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. 28 I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. 29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.”
30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an evil spirit.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Should we be united?

If we are divided against each other then we will fall and fail.

Who were divided against Jesus?

  1.  The Pharisees wanted to stop Him who threatened their domain over the people and their religion.
  2. Jesus’ family wanted to stop him because He was misunderstood.  They wanted to help Him and perhaps to preserve their reputation.
  3. Those who were more concerned about themselves, than any one else.

Who were those who were united with Jesus?

  1.  His disciples were his followers.  Those who went with Him.
  2. His friends who tried to do the will of God .

Who are the united believers in Christ?

  1. Are we united with God and Jesus?
  2. Are we united with ourselves and within ourselves do we have peace and unity?
  3. Are we united within our families?  Can we get along and cooperate?
  4. Are we united in our churches?
  5. Are we united as Christians in our communites?

Who can unite?

  1.  We can.
  2. We can get together with God and with each other.

How can we unite?

  1.  It takes two.
  2. We must agree to get together and get along.
  3. We must agree to disagree but what brings us together is more important than what divides us.
  4. Do you agree with God and want to get together?
  5. Do you agree with Jesus?
  6. Do you want to do what God wants?
  7. Do you want to go to heaven and do you want to bring others?
  8. Let’s get together.
